OVERVIEW

The Eastwood High School Trooper Marching Band is an organization at my alma mater in El Paso, TX. Eastwood is known for its long-standing preservation in pride and tradition, but also honoring innovation through teaching methods and school culture. When the newest Director of Bands (and former student of Eastwood) took over in 2021, he decided that it was time for the organization to get a facelift.

PROJECT INFORMATION

Upon initial meetings with the current board of directors as well as gathering feedback from alumni, it was clear that our priority was to maintain and reflect two values of the organization: tradition and innovation. In the primary logo itself, the “Flying E” was the symbol appropriate to keep as the main mark with its recognition from the community and its modern, geometrical style. Once we defined the weight of the main mark, we added a shape that would not only pay homage to the original crest, but also maintain certain nuances in brand recognition when being scaled in digital, print, apparel, or other assets.

The color palette also reflects the core values of the organization by preserving the original navy blue and mustard gold, but also adding in an accent royal blue to communicate its prog- ress. We thought the original typography decision as a sans-serif worked well, so the only change was just choosing a font that complimented the dynamic intensity of of the mark.
